1 What do I need to rent a car?

The following items are required:

2 Can I drive in Japan with the driver's license of my own country?

The driver's license from your home country alone does not allow you to drive in Japan. Please see here for information about valid driver's licenses in Japan.
If you do not have a valid license, we cannot lease a car to you. Please make sure to bring it with you on the day of your rental.


3 When do I need to reserve the car by?

You can make a reservation online up to one hour before the pick-up time, but cars may be fully booked. To secure a rental, please make a reservation as soon as you make a final decision on your rental details.


4 Do cars ever become fully booked?

Yes. The following periods are especially busy due to the holiday season in Japan. We recommend early reservations.


5 When can I make a reservation from?

Online reservations are available from 3 months before the pick-up date.


6 Can I choose the car model?

Unfortunately we cannot take car model requests with our online reservation system.
If you would like to choose a car model, please call the TOYOTA Rent a Car Reservation Center. Please note that an option charge is added when you designate a car model.
HV and P grades: JPY 540 (tax included) for up to 24 hours
W and SUV grades, or Premium class: JPY 1,080 (tax included) for up to 24 hours


7 Do I need to return the car to the same shop I picked it up at?

You can return your rental car to a different TOYOTA Rent a Car shop than where you rented it (One-Way System).

Some car models and shops may not be available through the One-Way System. For details, please see the information of the shop you are planning to use or call the TOYOTA Rent a Car Reservation Center.


8 How much does it cost if I use the One-Way System?

The One-Way System is free of charge if cars are returned to shops in the same prefecture (within the same area for Hokkaido).
A surcharge is required if you return your car to a shop outside of the prefecture (outside of the area for Hokkaido).

9 How should I pay the car rental fee?

Please make the payment at the shop when you pick up the car. We ask you to pay by credit card in principle, but cash payment is also possible for some car classes.


10 Can I pay the car rental fee by cash?

We accept cash payment for some car grades under certain conditions.

If you are renting an HV3, HV4, SP1, P4, P5, and SUV3 grade, or Premium class car, credit card payment is required.
If you are renting other classes, credit card payment is preferable. If you wish to pay by cash, please also present your passport.


11 I made the reservation under my name. Can my travelling companions also drive?

In addition to the person who made the reservation, travelling companions can also drive. Please show the valid driver's license and passport of all drivers.
No surcharge is required for additional drivers.


12 Can I change my reservation details?

If you would like to change the date, shop or car class, it can be modified online up to one hour before the pick-up time.
If it is less than an hour before the pick-up time, please contact the TOYOTA Rent a Car Reservation Center or the pick-up shop.


13 Can I cancel my reservation?

Your reservation can be cancelled online up to one hour before the pick-up time.
If it is less than an hour before the pick-up time, please contact the TOYOTA Rent a Car Reservation Center or the pick-up shop.
Please note that the prescribed cancellation charges will be charged in case of cancellation.
