Car navigation systems can be reserved for car models other than all passenger classes (including station wagons and SUV) and ETC devices can be reserved for car models other than all passenger classes (including station wagons and SUV) for free by phone. However, the number is limited depending on the model, so please contact us in advance.
Only available at some shops. Check availability when making your reservation.
SUV4 is 4WD and 4WD rates are included in the hourly rate.

Notes:

For the online reservation, You will need to pay through Web payment (online credit card payment service).
When making reservations via the Internet, some options may not be included in the breakdown of charges. Please call the TOYOTA Rent a Car Reservation Center or your nearest shop to ask for details.
Optional items such as snow chains and canvas covers may not be available at some of our shops.

ETC Device

The ETC (Electronic Toll Collection System) is a system that allows for fares to be calculated automatically for vehicles passing through toll gates on expressways, without having to stop.

1 How to Use ETC-Equipped Rental Cars

All TOYOTA Rent a Car passenger cars are equipped with an ETC device (excluding cars at some shops).
Bring your own ETC card, or simply use a rental card from us.

Notes:

All passenger classes (including station wagons and SUV) are equipped with ETC devices as standard equipment.
For other grades, ETC devices can be attached as a free-of-charge option.
Please note that the number of ETC devices for other grades is limited. Please inquire about availability in advance by phone.
ETC devices are not offered in isolated islands.

2 Pre-Driving Checklist

Point #1

Confirm the expiration date of your ETC card

ETC gates will not open if your ETC card has expired.
Point #2

Direction of insertion of ETC card

ETC gates will not open if the ETC card is inserted in the wrong direction, or if it is upside down.
Point #3

Do not forget to take ETC card out

Be sure to take your ETC card out of the device when leaving and returning the car.

Note: Do not take your ETC card out of the device while passing through the ETC lane, or right after passing through.

How to Use Expressways (When Using ETC)

You can use expressways hassle-free with the ETC system.
You can rent ETC cards at our shop (card rental fee of 550 JPY per rental; includes 10% tax).
When renting an ETC card, please pay the expressway toll amounts when returning your rental car.

Insert the ETC card into the ETC device correctly. If the ETC device does not recognize the ETC card, the barrier will not open.
The operation explanation below is an example. Actual conditions may differ.

How to Enter the Expressway

The ETC lane is displayed at the tollgate. Head toward it.

Enter the lane marked "ETC専用" or "ETC・一般ゲート."

Lower your speed to 20 km/h or less, and slowly pass through.

How to Exit the Expressway

The ETC lane is displayed at the tollgate. Head toward it.

Enter the lane marked "ETC専用" or "ETC・一般ゲート."

Lower your speed to 20 km/h or less, and slowly pass through. The barrier will open. There is no need to stop at the gate to pay the toll. The toll amount is displayed.

How to Use Expressways (Without ETC/When Not Using ETC)

Pay the expressway toll with either cash or credit card.

The operation explanation below is an example. Actual conditions may differ.

How to Enter the Expressway

Enter the lane marked "一般ゲート" or "ETC・一般ゲート," and stop.

You will receive a passing ticket from the attendant. Tickets may also be issued automatically by machines. Hold onto the ticket and do not lose it as it becomes necessary at the exit.

Expressway tolls are usually paid at the exit, but there are some instances where payments are made at a toll gate located at the entrance.
If payment is made at the entrance, there will be no toll gate at the exit.
However, when changing onto a different expressway/toll road, there will be a new toll gate.

How to Exit the Expressway

Enter the lane marked "一般ゲート" or "ETC・一般ゲート," and stop.

Hand the passing ticket to the attendant.

The expressway toll is displayed.

When paying, you can usually pay by cash or credit cards, but there are some toll gates where credit cards are not accepted. Please also have cash ready.

ETC Card Rentals

ETC cards can be requested at the time of your online reservation
Not available at some shops such as on remote islands. There may be instances where rental is not possible due to reservation conditions

Don't worry if you don't have an ETC card, as you can rent one from us. Reservations can be made online.

Offers the convenience of one single payment for both ETC usage fees and car rental fees.

You can return it to any shop, and not just the one you got it from. (Some shops are excluded.)

Notes:

ETC card usage fees can be paid by credit card or in cash at the shop when you return the car.
You cannot rent just the ETC card.

JAF Membership Certificate Rental

Customers can make use of JAF's 24-hour Road Service Center, featuring interpretation in 21 languages, including English, Chinese (Mandarin) and Korean, provided by a JAF-affiliated interpreting service.
Also, preferential service from JAF-affiliated facilities throughout the country is available to members.

Notes:

The "JAF discount" does not apply to the rental car's basic rate.
Not applicable to T2 (other than standard decks), T3, T4, or Bus classes.
In instances of damage/loss, the cost of a JPY 2,000 (tax exempt) issuance fee is charged separate from other costs.
Some shops do not provide this service.
If have used JAF road service, we are given the details from JAF (date and time, location, type of work done, etc.).

4WD (Four-Wheel Drive Vehicle)

4WD cars are available for some models (All SUV4s are 4WD). Please specify a 4WD when making your reservation.

Child Seats

It is required by law to use child seats for children under 6.
If you will be traveling together with a child under the age of 6, please be sure to let us know at the time that you make your reservation.
We also recommend using a child seat until a child can properly use an adult seatbelt, even if they are over six years old.
It is your responsibility to make sure that child seats are attached correctly.

Winter Tires, Snow Chains, Ski/Snowboard Racks

Rental of winter tires, snow chains, and ski/snowboard racks is available.
Winter tires can be requested online at the time of the car reservation during the winter season (offered as standard equipment at some shops).
For those who wish to rent snow chains or ski/snowboard racks, please contact the TOYOTA Rent a Car Reservation Center after your car reservation.

In Japan, there are areas where snow falls from the end of September to May.

When going to areas with snowfall, winter tires and other winter equipment is required.
Snowfall may occur at your destination even if not at your pick-up location.
Be sure to check the weather conditions of your destination.
Even with winter tires equipped, please take plenty of caution with snowy roads, and drive safely.

Covers/Sheets/Ropes/Carriers

Items needed for moving house or load carriage such as covers, sheets, ropes and carriers are available.
Please call and consult with us for details.

Pets

Conditions (Instructions for Users)

Please let us know if you will be accompanied by a pet when making a reservation. (Pet-related service fee: 2,200 yen (tax included)/trip)
Please keep your pet in a cage no larger than 70 cm x 90 cm x 75 cm when it is in the car. (Bring your own cage.)
Please set the cage in the cargo area.
Please place a picnic sheet etc. under the cage.
Customers are responsible for arranging their own picnic sheets.
Sign the Agreement.
If you disagree with conditions 1–5 as shown above, we will not allow you to bring your pet in the car.

Non Operation Charge (NOC)

A NOC will be charged if extreme odor, dirt or damage is found in the car and needs to be cleaned or repaired.
If covered by the Double Protection Package, you are exempt from NOC payment.

Notes:

Assistance dogs (service dogs, guide dogs, etc.) are exempt from the above conditions and are treated as individuals.
The Agreement is available at each shop. Please sign it at the shop.
